Planetary gearbox maintenance checklist

Based on our years of experience we have curated a list of the maintenance checklists for industrial gearboxes. This checklist applies to all types of planetary gearboxes.

Print this list and paste it into your workshop or production floor. This will help to remind your workforce to audit your gearboxes.

This list is intended for all engineers, purchase managers, supervisors & relevant persons who are involved in the regular maintenance of the Industrial gearboxes.
  1. Regular Inspection
    • Visual Checks – Check for oil leakages, unusual sound or noise if any
    • Temperature Monitoring – if the temperature rises above the desired level

  2. Lubrication Management
    • Oil level – After the first 500 hrs remove the oil completely and refill the new oil. Then after every 2000 hours keep repeating oil changes. At regular intervals, you should check the oil level through the oil window and maintain the oil at the desired level.
    • Oil quality – ISO VG 220/320

  3. Fastener and Seal Integrity
    • Fasteners – Check if fasteners have loosened due to vibrations.
    • Seals – Check for oil-level leakages

  4. Alignment and Bearing Checks
    • Shaft Alignments – Check shaft alignment during fitment and make sure the equipment and gear shaft are aligned.
    • Bearings

  5. Vibration Analysis
    • Vibration Monitoring – During visual inspection, look out for any unusual vibrations.

  6. Documentation
    • Maintenance logs – In your maintenance logs, maintain the date and timings of your inspection. Make sure you have a fixed day routine check schedule.
    • Trend Analysis – Cross-check your maintenance log with previous months and look out for failure trends or any repetitive failures.

Conclusion – Though, this is a simple process, a lot of our customers forget to do the regular maintenance of the gearboxes, and always give us a call when something goes wrong. Usually, most of the time following one of the common maintenance processes solved their problem.
